To the Editor:

Your May 5 article describing the increasing practice of suing
banks when a person is robbed near one of their automatic teller
machines was very informative. The technology of this new industry
was well described in the many quotations from plaintiffs' lawyers.

However one expects more from the world's leading business newspaper.
than a mere description of technology. Potential investors and young
men and women deciding on a career require quantitative information about
financial prospects and level of employment.

How many lawyers has the new industry employed? How many
million dollars in fees did they receive in 1985 and 1986 and what
are the projections for 1987 and 1988?

How can we make decisions without this vital data?

Sincerely,
